premature babies and colic

do premature babies get more colic?

yes, preemies do seem to have a greater likelihood of getting colic. this is simply due to their smaller size and less developed digestive tract. they are often a little more 'curled up' and stiffer or stuck in a 'foetal ball'. moms often report that they don't wind or burp easily because they're so stiff.

as a result of being in this curled up and slightly stiff position, with lots of milk suddenly introduced, it is thought that gas is more easily trapped in the digestive tract. to prevent this from becoming an issue, stretch and massage techniques are helpful. the muscular stretches are designed specifically to help and give a sort of a re-birthing experience. learn this simple but highly effective routine on our learning center.
