Getting the Burps Out
colicky babies need excellent burping skills!
almost all babies guzzle in some air when they feed. some take in a lot. if they don't burp well, it causes a feeling of discomfort and indigestion and can interrupt the passage of milk into the intestinal tract. this often leads to poor feeding and sleeping and sooner or later, to colic and reflux.
colicky babies often don't burp completely in the basic positions (over the shoulder, etc) . the best way to resolve this is to learn 'active' burping techniques:
do each of the 6 positions for 30-60 seconds each
do routine after feeds for 3 - 5 days and you should see a marked improvement
the routine "kick starts" good burping. then just do positions that work
