Why tummy time is important

Babies should spend time on their stomach every day from soon after birth.

It will help to strengthen their neck and spinal muscles and encourage the development of good spinal curves (posture).

Why tummy time is important

As your baby tries to lift their head, deep abdominal muscles are engaged. This helps the digestive process as well as getting gas and wind to release from little pockets where it may be getting stuck.

Many babies won't enjoy being on their stomach. The head is very heavy relative to immature neck muscles and they may well be frustrated and grumpy! Persist as best you can - its fine to break it up into smaller 'bites'.

By six weeks, your baby should be spending at least 30 minutes a day on their stomach.
